Everything you need to know about our natural rock holds, installation, and care.
Nothing can compare to the feel of real rock. With Untamed Holds, we wanted to make the outdoor feel more accessible, whether it's for strength, skin training, or showing off your cool holds to your friends.
The rocks are sourced in collaboration with multiple of our partners. Our Untamed Granite comes from a high-quality granite quarry located in the heart of the French Pyrenees, whilst our other collections come from private properties across the Pyrenees-Orientales & Aude regions with owner authorisation.
Consistent brushing will help prevent the buildup of chalk and rubber. If necessary, we advise using a brush and a little spray of isopropyl alcohol to get a greater deep clean. As it evaporates, the isopropyl alcohol will lift any dirt and skin oils, allowing you to simply sweep everything away with a brush.
Natural rock contains iron minerals, which is why we do not advise using water for cleaning your holds. With water exposure, the surface-level iron minerals may rust and develop into rust discolouration.
All of our holds are crafted to fit the same dimension screw of 5mm diameter. The length of the screw required will vary, as it depends on the depth of your holds.
Our small business is just starting out, and we are not able to supply the screws at this moment in time due to supplier logistics. We plan to include optional installation screws with your order in the near future. If you require any advice on your screw purchase, please get in touch with us and we will be happy to help. Thank you for your understanding, and stay tuned!
There is no strict torque to follow. The most important thing is to not overtighten, as you can cause damage to the wall, the T-nut, or the hold.
After installing, we recommend testing the hold with different directions of pressure in order to test for any possibility of spinning. If the hold budges, additional screws can be added to the sides of the hold for stabilisation.
Our torque recommendations by hold size:
| Hold Size | Torque (Nm) |
|---|---|
| Small | 25–35 Nm |
| Medium | 30–40 Nm |
| Large | 40–45 Nm |
| Extra-large | 40–50 Nm |
| Mega | 50 Nm |
Due to the nature of the stone holds, it is impossible to individually test the limits of each hold. We do our best to ensure quality by hand-picking only naturally strong and dense stone, making sure to closely examine them for fissures or any other structural defects. After working the rock, we test our holds with a 100kg weighted load test.
Our holds can be used outdoors, but we recommend keeping them sheltered from prolonged rain and moisture where possible. Because the holds are natural stone, sustained water exposure can cause surface-level iron minerals to oxidise over time. A covered outdoor wall or a quick brush-down after wet weather will keep them in great condition.
We love collaborating with gyms, training centres, and passionate climbers who want something truly unique. If you have a specific texture, size, or collection in mind, reach out to us and we'll do our best to make it happen. Custom orders are subject to sourcing availability and lead times.
Each hold listing includes dimensions and a reference photo so you can judge the scale before buying. As a general guide: small holds are great for skin conditioning and technical training; medium holds suit general fingerboard and wall training; large holds are ideal for volume work and beginner-friendly routes.
If you're unsure, check out our Your Setup page for inspiration, or drop us a message and we'll point you in the right direction.
Because our holds are genuine stone, they are far more durable than resin alternatives and the texture will not degrade with normal use. In fact, like outdoor rock, the surface can develop a pleasant patina over time. Regular brushing keeps the friction properties sharp and prevents chalk buildup from masking the texture.
